Tech lead
Edurio is on its way to improving education quality globally and we’re looking for great people to help us grow rapidly!
We help schools and school groups survey their parents, pupils, and staff to build organisations where people thrive. We currently work with over 2000 schools in the United Kingdom and Latvia and are planning to grow significantly each year.
We're looking for a Tech lead with solid experience to scale our product with us to support our rapidly growing user base and help us in our improvement journey.
Our current technical stack
- Back-end - PHP7 with Laravel, TypeScript
- Front-end - Vue.js 2.x, Bootstrap
- Datastores - MySQL, Redis
- Version control - Git, GitLab
- Infrastructure - AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, ELB, Lambda, Event bridge, API Gateway, Lambda), Linux
Why are we hiring
- Our product team needs a strong technical leader to guide our scaling process.
- We have a small product team — aiming at 2 back-end devs, 1 front-end dev, QA, designer, head of product, and the tech lead (this position). As we have found product-market fit, we can afford to invest in scaling and doing things properly, so we need somebody to guide our path towards a solid, well-built product.
- We have a set of working processes (similar to Kanban — working on the most important problem at a time, no sprints) and our head of product can own people management, but technical leadership remains a gap.
- We have an 8-year-old PHP monolith that requires some maintenance, but we are investing in a move towards micro-services and eliminating technical debt. Our company is growing steadily, so scaling our infrastructure and codebase is becoming a strong need.
- We also believe that technical improvements can unlock huge potential value in terms of data analytics and visualisation (as we are collecting some of the largest education datasets in the UK).
What would be your responsibilities
- Take ownership of the technical direction of the company to support the business vision.
- Be a technical product owner. Prioritise and weigh technical and architectural needs and solutions, including balancing Edurio technical debt. Cooperate with our Head of Product to prioritise technical and business needs.
- Contribute as a back-end developer by writing code and pair programming, doing code reviews or updating infrastructure. The team is small enough for everyone to be hands-on once in a while.
- Lead the development team to create and implement best practices, technical vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve the technical performance of the platform.
- Collaborate with our Operations Team to build a strong software development team through recruiting new software development team members and managing external contractors.
What you are likely to have
- Experience as senior back-end developer managing complex tech projects
- Experience migrating existing solutions to new technologies
- Experience with architecture that can scale based on the demand
- Experience with database optimisation
- Good understanding of the full development lifecycle
- A good understanding of our existing tech stack:
Back-end - PHP with Laravel, TypeScript
Front-end - Vue.js 2.x, Bootstrap
Datastores - MySQL, Redis
Version control - Git
Infrastructure - AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, ELB, Lambda, Event bridge, API Gateway, Lambda, Aurora), Linux
What are the necessary attitudes
